I'm not saying I'll be true, but I'll try.

GOD, finding a reasonably priced two-bedroom flat to rent in North London is like looking for a needle in a haystack... BLOODY HARD, so I'm taking a break from Gumtree and Zoopla to blog (hurrah!) and listen to some Nico.

Nico was a beautiful German singer, model and artist known mainly for her work with The Velvet Underground (femme fatale, i'll be your mirror, all tomorrow's parties) and for being an Andy Warhol Muse. Unsurprisingly her talent and beauty never just inspired good old Andy though - over the years she's also inspired the creativity of  Bob Dylan, Ernest Hemmingway, Morrissey, Patti Smith, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Bjork and Jean Baudrillad.

Despite relatively large success and a heroin addiction spanning over fifteen years, Nico died the surprisingly un-rock 'n' roll death of cerebral hemorrhage caused by a bicycle accident in Ibiza in 1988. Her last recorded song was "Your Kisses Burn", a duet with Marc Almond, though I can't seem to find it anywhere...

  2. Isn't it funny that she's a German singer and YouTube won't let me watch this video? Gosh, YouTube. I hate you so much.
    Currently I am listening to Casper, a German rapper. I don't like Hip Hop at all but it's the lyrics and the beautiful background music that make his music pretty amazing. :)

  3. Nico was cool. It saddens me, though, when talented people die young. We should all live to ripe old ages.

    I'm listening to Patti Smith's early work. Her "Horses" album is one of my favorites. The song "Gloria" is a classic.

    I hope the flat-hunting will be going well soon! I'm excited for you! I hope you'll find something divine.

    Recently I'm a lot into She & Him (Christmas album, yay) and oldies like Louis Armstong. City and Colour really got me too, a few weeks ago. But I'm pretty sure you probably know them all yourself already! ;)

  13. I don't know why, but I've just never got round to listening to Nico. I guess having lost the wire that connects my iPod to the computer isn't exactly encouraging me to download new stuff I've been into the Shins and WU LYF recently. xxx

  16. Oh, she's lovely. I love the Velvet Underground, but haven't really listened to much by Nico herself. I'm not even sure what I've been listening to lately... lots of Bon Iver I think.

  26. Good luck with the flat hunting, I'm pretty sure the only affordable places in London are questionable to say the least! I hope you find something though- rent was definitely one of the main things that made me leave the UK!

    Nico is absolutely gorgeous. My internet is so crapola at the moment that I can't listen to the song but will definitely look into it soon! xx
