I am 21!

l-r: they R MINE!, my handsome cat, my wonderful brooding dad and my birthday cake featuring a younger, cooler me.

Hi! I'm blogging to you from the grand age of 21... exciting, huh! I don't seem to feel any older or wiser yet but I have found it a great excuse for eating my body weight in cake.

Spent a few days in Bournemouth with my family and it was lovely -- the weather was beautiful and for once Bournemouth actually resembled something of a proper seaside town! I'm pleased to say my wishlist was noticed by the right people, too ;) Wish I could have stayed longer but I returned to London yesterday to celebrate with my close friends and hit Camden town...

Right now I'm sat in my kitchen, hungover, with a fridge full of cake and the awareness that I only just have enough money for this months rent. Swings and roundabouts. No word on the interview yet but I'll let you know when I know...

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

The Interview...

GUYS, I SURVIVED! And it actually went really well so thank you for all your support.

I won't bore you too much with the details, but the interview process consisted of a group exercise, a three minute TV pitch (!!!) and a one on one two interview, all topped off with a free buffet style lunch and, if you didn't have the grades to hand, (thankfully i did and so got to go home after scoffing my share of mini sandwiches) a Verbal and Numerical exam.

Despite how absolutely bloody terrifying that all sounds everything was fine and far far far more relaxed than anticipated! Everyone was lovely (including the other candidates, damn them) and to my surprise I left feeling really quite happy with how it had all gone.

I'll let you know whether or not I get a place. Obviously I'll be absolutely thrilled if I do but the competition is extremely fierce and there's still another day of interviews to go... Right now I'm in Bournemouth doing a pretty good job of keeping my mind off it all; it's my Dad's Birthday today (Happy Birthday, Pa!) and my Birthday tomorrow so I've got a lot to keep me busy!

Enjoy the beautiful weather and I'll catch you on the flip-side, yo. ;)

Song of the Week: Shake It Out - Florence + The Machine

Interview looming. Considered having The Smiths' classic Please Please Please as my SotW but felt it maybe a little obvious... Besides, I love this song right now and Florence did win XFM's "Women Who Rock" poll this week so here's my little salute. ;)

Anyway, can't stick around, got to go prep and get myself (more) nervous.

L-R: Sherlock S2, Diana Lomo (or a decent DSLR, i'm not fussy), Valerie Boots, White Musk (still can't find my "signature scent", but this £10 musk from body shop is lovely), cool rounded sunglasses (lennon always was my fave), a nice clothing rail (i've only got draws right now), the BBC apprenticeship (obv) (ahhh!), and lots of cash to spend on things I can't see myself being able to afford this year, i.e. bestival, edinburgh fringe, fun, food...
Yeah so I've been thinking and I'd like all this. Just message me for my address, friends.

London Loves...

view from waterlow park, highgate
CAN YOU FEEL THAT? It's Spring, I'm sure of it.

Hope you all had a lovely Mother's Day! Sadly I couldn't be with my Mum this year, but I'll be making it up to her when I go visit next week! I can't wait, it's been almost three months since I saw her last and that is just far too long for my liking.

Song of the Week: Shotgun - Eugene McGuinness

I love this song! It's from Eugene McGuinness (front man of Eugene + The Lizards) and it's just so bloody cool and suave... definitely one to keep your eye on. Reminds me a little of We Are Scientists. What do you think?

P.S. Thanks so much for all the well wishes on my last post! I'll be sure to let you know how it goes...

The (wannabe) Apprentice

Ahhh! Today I received an email informing me that I've been shortlisted into the next stage of the BBC media apprenticeship recruitment process; I've got an interview at White City in two flipping weeks!

I feel sick already.

ETA: Ha ha ha just to clarify, I'm not talking about THE Apprentice; just an apprenticeship with the BBC!

R U Mine?

R U? R U?! U BETTER BE!

Do you see what I'm doing here? Ha ha, yes - I'm quite obviously talking to the shoes whilst also cleverly referencing to that brilliant new Arctic Monkey's song, well done.

It's my 21st Birthday at the end of the month, you see (March 29th if we want to be specific -- feel free to message me for my address ;)) and I'm definitely gonna be asking for these beauties. They're from Office and they're right up my street; elegant with that tiny bit of industrial inspired sturdiness to 'em. Tried them on in-store yesterday (just to get a feel, you know...) and there's no going back now!

Pleeease, ma & pa, I know you're  spying on me  reading this...

Also, just while I'm here, Spector certainly didn't disappoint! Honestly, such a great band and a really fun night (though the part where I handed over £10 for two single vodka cranberries and got 60p back did piss me off) I'll definitely be buying their album come April 30th!

Song of the Week: Chevy Thunder - Spector

Seeing these guys at the 100 Club tonight; bought tickets after hearing just this song alone. Yeah I know, right! Pretty spontaneous. Don't think I'll be regretting it, though - been listening to some of their other stuff today and I'm pleased to say they're living up to my presumptuous hype. ;)

I'll let you know how they fair up live...

A dreaded sunny day, so I meet you at the cemetery gates.

Apologies for both the ridiculous amount of photographs and the disgustingly obvious title; I just couldn't help myself. ;)

Last week I visited Highgate Cemetery, a stunning grade 1 listed, 37 acre cemetery situated in North London (notable "residents" including Karl Marx, Douglas Adams and JEREMY BEADLE) and despite it being a huge, crumbling Victorian graveyard filled with over 170,000 people in around 53,000 graves (cheers, Wikipedia) the place is not as morbid as one may assume.

Though I admit I did visit on a rather bright and sunny day...

The Cemetery was opened in 1839 and despite being operated and maintained by the non-profit organisation 'Friends of Highgate' it hasn't been touched much at all, giving it an overgrown, almost abandoned look; a magnificent maze of ivy-covered headstones, willowy trees, untamed shrubbery and wild flowers. The grounds are split into two parts, East and West Cemetery, and visitors are required to pay an entrance fee of either £3 or £7; £3 will allow viewing the East Cemetery unescorted, whilst £7 will get you a guided tour of the slightly older and grander West Cemetery.

Unfortunately I only managed to view the East Cemetery on my visit, but I'll definitely be rectifying this soon; I think cemeteries may be my new favourite place. #goth

P.S. I'm gutted I couldn't spot any ghosts in my photographs.

I'm back.

Hi!

Ooh, it feels weird to be posting. I don't know where to start. Er. Did you have a nice Christmas? How are those New Year resolutions coming along? Get anything for Valentines? Sorry for the accidental three month blog hiatus that I didn't warn anyone about? Ha ha, yeah... sorry, I swear I didn't mean for it to happen! If you follow me on Twitter then you're probably aware of what's been going on but basically I'm back in London (hurrah!) and have been pretty busy sorting things out and settling back in.

I'll do a proper fill-in post soon, but for now I just want to say hello, thanks for sticking around and that normal service shall resume from here on!

That's if anyone's still reading...

See you soon!
