Song of the Week: Hold On - Alabama Shakes

I LOVE THESE GUYS. Perfect music for this perfect weather we're suddenly having (hope you've been enjoying it, you know it's not gonna stick around long)

Saw some great comedy at The Camden Head in Islington last night. Really decent bill and Rich Fulcher (of Mighty Boosh fame) was the headline act and ha ha ha he was just brilliant. GET OUTTA HEREEE!!!

The whole thing was free, too. Well, kind of free. The promoter threw in the donation line towards the end and then waited by the doors with a bucket which was kind of awkward because I'd taken "free comedy night" at face value and had spent most of my money on wasabi nuts and cider; ended up doing that horrible thing where you stand in front of the person waiting, dig around in your pockets for a good few minutes and then come out with with 57p and some chewing gum.

Anyway, it was a really great night - next time you're strapped for cash and needing a good laugh (only on a Thursday, Saturday or Sunday night, mind) you know where to go. ;)

Mildred's, miserable weather and the BAFTAs

apple, fennel and spring onion burger

chocolate and raspberry truffle

I'm seriously tempted to leave this post at just those two photographs. I won't, though. Because I'm not cruel. Not really. And besides, I wanna share where that food can be found, don't I! Just so you can go eat it too. It's from Mildred's. You're welcome. See, I'm so good to you. I've even timed this post for just after lunch in the hopes that you'll be all full and not hungry whilst reading.

If you aren't then it's your own fault.

Aside from that delicious dinner my week has been pretty rubbish if I'm honest. Thankfully the miserable weather does seem to have gotten my creative juices flowing though (god I hate that phrase) - nothing like a bit of rain keep to keep you locked inside writing and completing application forms! I've even got myself a "Group Assessment" on Friday for one of the jobs I've applied to so fingers crossed.

Anyway, hope you're all having a good time and not getting too under the weather. Have you had a look at the BAFTA nominations yet? If you haven't, do it! And whilst you're at it leave strongly worded comment asking why Sherlock hasn't been nominated for Best Drama, would you? ;) Everything else seems to be in order.

Song of the Week: Sixteen Saltines - Jack White (and Happy Record Store Day!)

Welcome back, Jack! It's been a while. Had a pretty hard time deciding which song of his to pick from his new album Blunderbuss for my "SotW" -- he did a talk through of the whole thing with John Kennedy on XFM yesterday lunchtime (told you they were good) and I love it all! Went with 'Sixteen Saltines' in the end but 'Love Interrupted' is brilliant and 'Missing Pieces' is probably my fave fave.

Also Happy Record Store Day! Are you planning on buying anything? I was considering trying to get hold of a Morrissey 'Suedehead' picture disc but I've left it all a bit late and have a feeling they've sold out. I wouldn't turn down an Arctic Monkey's purple vinyl of 'R U Mine?' or a Luxury Comedy 'Loose Tapestries' vinyl, though ;) #hint

ETA: Turns out the Arctic Monkey's vinyls sold out in FIFTEEN MINUTES!

you know i'm not gonna diss you on the internet coz my mumma taught me better than that

Oh yeah! Reminisce. I've been (accidentally) tuned into Magic FM most of this weekend and haven't bothered to switch it yet... In fact if I were honest I'd say I've kind of been enjoying it. Last night was "club classics" night (cue Destiny's Child, Justin Timberlake, Black Eyed Peas, that song that goes 'I'm blue abade abdadi" etc) and despite having my bezfriend Emily round for a "quiet one" we ended up GOING OUT.

I know, right? Magic got us pumped.

Pretty sure the novelty has worn off now, though... the last thing I need with a hangover is Coldplay saying they'll fix me so back to XFM we go (I swear though, if I hear Grohl scream "EASY FOR YOU TO SAY" one more time I'm going straight back to Magic. Or Heart. Or Capital.)

Speaking of XFM, thanks to them I've got tickets to see The Horrors in May! Won them through their Access All April competition and got to sound like a div on the radio ;) Ha ha.

Hmm, yeah, that's about all I've got. This isn't a great post, is it? Sorry. It's happened now though. I'm gonna go watch a bit of the Oliviers and eat some soup.

Song of the Week: Through The Night - Ren Harvieu

I saw this lovely lady at Bush Hall last night and she was bloody brilliant. Unbelievably talented and devastatingly cool; she came onto the stage singing TRUST IN ME from THE JUNGLE BOOK (Kaa's song!), albeit a slightly jazzier version, and I fell in love. She did a cover of Roy Orbison's "Crying" too which was beautiful, even if that song does only ever remind me of Only Fools and Horses.

Of course her own songs were stunning as well -- she's got a killer voice and a real swingin' sixties vibe to her which I just love. Very Dusty Springfield.

Honestly, go see her if you can coz she is gonna be BIG.

eggcellent times

Don't worry I'm not gonna do any more egg puns. I think I used them all up on Twitter yesterday anyway so yeah, sorry to disappoint... but that's all, yolks.

Hope you all had a lovely Easter Sunday! I'm still feeling a little sick from all the chocolate but I know I'd happily force down some more if offered. Luckily that ain't gonna happen any time soon. Easter is over, man. Accept it and go eat some vegetables.

I spent my day wearing a cape (see pic), eating chocolate (see pic), cooking and eating roast dinner (see pic), visiting the local Catholic Church for evening mass (i'm not Catholic) and getting 9/40 in a pub quiz with Nadia (don't ask!)... Sadly today it's back to reality. First I've got to venture out into the bank holiday monday rain to purchase some real food with my non-existent money and then I've got to egg  job hunt. BORING!

Hope your day is more fun than mine.

Friday, 6 April 2012

You just haven't earned it yet, baby.

Hi gang, hope you're having a GOOD FRIDAY ;) I just saw Les Dennis walking down Archway Road so you can only imagine how mine's going.

Unfortunately today isn't going to feature the celebratory post I hoped it might; found out yesterday that I didn't get the BBC gig :((( I'd be an awful liar if I said I wasn't gutted about it but I've had some time to drown my sorrows, wallow in a bit of self pity and accept the age old cliche "EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON" and now it's time to get back on that proverbial bloody horse and ride ride ride.

All the way to Channel 4.

;)

Anyway, I just want to say thank you for all the supportive comments and messages these past few weeks, I really have appreciated them all. Let's hope next time I'll have some better news!

Song of the Week: Disparate Youth - Santigold

Oooh-oh-oh! Santigold, The Artist Formerly Known as Santogold (yeah I don't know either), is BACK.

In other news I visited Ally Pally (that's Alexandra Palace for you squares) for the first time ever today! Yeah, altogether I've lived in north London for about a year and a half and yet for some reason I'd never gotten round to visiting before. To be honest I wasn't even too sure what it actually was; I knew people went on about it having a great view of London (it does) and about it holding cool gigs (just missed Florence and Spector playing there) and something to do with the early BBC (still no news) but what's all this about it being a PALACE? I mean really! Come on.

But turns out it really is rather palacey, so fair play. Go see it!
